The FC-W standard, developed especially for lubricants intended for marine engines, makes the lubricant requirements more stringent than for ordinary marine oils in the following points: * Higher HTHS viscosity at 150°C to ensure better resistance of the oil film at high temperatures and to absorb dilution in prolonged idle phases. * Better shear resistance to maintain lubrication properties at high temperatures. * Very high anti-corrosion properties to combat corrosion caused by seawater or salt spray that can enter the combustion chamber via the exhaust.
