Lubricants : Boat engine oils and protection
The engine is the most important part of your boat, requiring rigorous, regular maintenance. Using the right oil is essential for the performance and longevity of your boat's engine. Choosing quality products is the best protection against corrosion and loss of watertightness.
We offer a wide choice of oils and greases for the maintenance of 2-stroke, 4-stroke, inboard and diesel outboard engines, as well as reversers, gearboxes, trimmers and steering. And don't forget fuel additives to extend the life of your engine.
Without oil, your boat's engine wouldn't be able to run, and it would heat up very quickly... Oil will act as a lubricant for the components and limit friction between the mechanical parts of your boat's engine. A good quality oil will also protect your engine from corrosion and improve its watertightness. So it's important to choose the right oil for your boat's engine.
The differences between 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines
The choice between a 2-stroke and a 4-stroke oil is one of the most important points to bear in mind when choosing an engine oil. Lubrication requirements for two-stroke and four-stroke engines are different.
In the case of 2-stroke engines, the oil lubricates the engine's internal components by being burnt in the combustion cylinder, whereas in the case of 4-stroke engines, the oil is continuously recycled.
Viscosity for 4-stroke oils :
Viscosity, or SAE grade, is something to keep in mind when choosing your motor oil. It is indicated in two ways: cold grade or dynamic viscosity, and hot grade or kinematic viscosity.
Cold grade is an indication of the oil's fluidity when the engine is cold, as well as its ability to adhere to walls.
The lower the index, the better the cold viscosity. A lower index is therefore recommended for winter use.
The hot grade is an indication of the thickness of the oil film when the engine is hot. A low hot grade will be suitable for a rather slow, lightly used engine, while high grades will be ideal for fast, powerful engines.
In addition to viscosity, there are 3 types of motor oil: mineral, semi-synthetic and 100% synthetic.
Mineral oil
Suitable for 4-stroke inboard engines. Derived from refined petroleum, these oils are suitable for non-turbocharged engines. Mineral oils do not stand up well to high temperatures, nor to engines running at high revs. They are recommended for older engines.

Semi-synthetic oil
As its name suggests, semi-synthetic oil is a blend of mineral and synthetic oils. It is of better quality than mineral oil and is mainly used for leisure boats.
100% synthetic oil
Synthetic oils are highly reliable and retain their properties for a long time. They are the highest-quality oils on the market. They are mainly used for engines with high rotation speeds, especially the latest-generation engines.
The best way to choose your motor oil is to refer to the manufacturer's recommendations. This will ensure that you get the right oil for your engine and your requirements.
Use the best oil for your boat's engine, baseplate and accessories: Volvo, Mercruiser, Suzuki, Johnson-Evinrude engines...
To keep your engine clean and contain impurities caused by fuel combustion, make sure you choose the right oil filter.
