PSS swivel joint, 38 mm shaft, 64 mm sternpost JTPSS3864

This PSS rotating seal is a mechanical device used to seal and protect propeller shafts against water ingress.

Shaft diameter: 38 mm / Stern tube diameter: 64–67 mm / Length: 229 mm

• The sealing surface is created between the flat surfaces of the rotating stainless steel rotor and the fixed carbon ring.
• The fixed carbon ring is held at the front of the bellows by clamps. The rear end of the bellows fits onto the stern tube and is also secured with stainless steel clamps. The stainless steel rotor is mounted on the propeller shaft, in front of the carbon ring.
• It is used to compress the bellows before the rotor is secured to the shaft with set screws. This compression maintains constant contact between the two flat faces of the stainless steel rotor and the carbon ring, allowing the PSS Shaft Seal to compensate for the variable forward and backward movement caused by the propeller thrust. The carbon ring is oversized to the diameter of the shaft, allowing it to "float" around the shaft and thus compensate for most misalignment and vibration problems. The stainless steel rotor is sealed to the shaft by two O-rings that are embedded in the collar bore.
• These O-rings rotate with the shaft and stainless steel rotor and do not wear during operation.
• PSS seals are 100% leak-proof and do not wear on the propeller shaft.
• They require no maintenance and offer excellent durability.
• They are a great replacement for conventional braided gland seals.
