Flange-mounted pumps that mount directly to the engine and crankshaft pulley-mounted pumps are available for a wide variety of engines.

Features:

Self-priming; a dry-run pump can draw water from depths of up to 3 meters. Thus, a flexible impeller pump used for engine cooling does not need to be placed below the waterline or primed manually.

Flexible impeller pumps can handle fairly large solids without clogging or damaging the pump. This reduces the need to filter the incoming fluid.

For general applications involving fresh or raw water, the standard, long-lasting neoprene rubber impeller is used. All flexible impeller pumps must not run dry for more than 30 seconds. Both the impeller and the seals rely on water for lubrication and will fail quickly if run dry.
