For engines 0R106999-0R406654, Mercury has modified the timing belt and timing belt tensioner system of the aforementioned outboard engines.
These engines no longer require the use of a timing belt tensioner if a new belt is installed. The old-design timing belt and timing belt tensioner are no longer available. New-design timing belts will need to be installed on engines that require these components. The timing belt tensioner and its components must be removed from engines on which the new timing belt will be installed.
For engines after 0R406654, the new belt is already factory-fitted.
